Milestones & Achievements

Dear All,

The year 2007 marked the beginning of a whole new chapter in NuLife’s history as key top level changes and successful projects strengthened the centre’s organisational structure and public image. As a part of NuLife’s gradual but steady move towards attaining charity status under the National Council of Social Service, the centre submitted its application.

NuLife in the year 2007 experienced a number of important milestones, one of which is the change in its organisational structure. The centre would like to extend its warmest welcome to Mr. Francis Paranjody and Mr. Elango who have honoured NuLife by joining its management committee as Board of Directors, with Ms Sheena Jebal taking on the role of CEO/Founder of the centre. Nulife firmly believes that this move will enhance both the organisational and governance aspects of the centre.

MediaCorp radio station Oli’s decision in making NuLife its charity for the year is another moment of watershed for the centre this year. As part of Oli’s efforts to promote NuLife’s services, trailers conveying information on the centre were aired on the radio station. Public awareness and interest on NuLife’s programmes increased with this collaboration. Being Oli’s adopted charity for the year, NuLife was invited to take part in the Gala Premier screening of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The Movie) in June 2007. 30 students, volunteers and staff attended this screening at Vivocity. NuLife also attended Campus Challenge 2007, a competition among tertiary students organised by Oli 96.8 FM. This competition mainly comprised of 3 categories, namely singing, dancing and stand-up comedy. About 30 students, volunteers and staff members were present at the event to promote NuLife’s services to the audience and participants of Campus Challenge 2007. This provided an opportunity to improve networking and increase contacts with interested volunteers, boosting Nulife’s overall public relations.

Educational and recreational outings such as the Gala Premier screening of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the nature trail to Lower Pierce Reservoir and the Deepavali Dinner and Variety show at Kampong Chai Chee Community Club were arranged by NuLife for both students and parents this year.

The nature trail to the Lower Pierce Reservoir organized in June 2007 was an effort in collaboration with the Buona Vista Community Club to provide students with an opportunity to learn via experience. Apart from the educational outdoor activities conducted during this project, all participants also received a goodie bag each which contained reading materials on youth issues from the Health Promotion Board (HPB), a crime watch game CD-ROM, chocolates, a hand phone pouch and bottled water. Participants were also treated to McDonalds Big Breakfast and chocolate/strawberry sundae for dessert. In the second half of the year, a special celebration was organized, to mark the annual Indian festival, Deepavali, where students, volunteers and staff members were invited to a buffer dinner and variety show at Kampong Chai Chee Community Club. In all 20 attendees were present at this function.

NuLife’s efforts to better educate the public and promote awareness on certain crucial issues paved way to the Singapore Parenting Conference 2007 and the Parenting Workshop 2007, which marked moments of great success for NuLife this year. NuLife conducted the Singapore Parenting Congress 2007 hosted by Mediacorp Radio, which was conducted in Tamil and catered to over 300 parents. It covered issues ranging from eating disorders, dealing with addictions (alcohol, drugs, smoking and cyber), to more sensitive topics such as communication between parent and child, abusive relationships and Boy Girl Relationships (BGR). The feedback received was very promising indeed as parents who attended the congress gave positive response and felt that the content covered was comprehensive and very much related to the issues they were experiencing with their children. Another constructive and recent initiative by the centre as part of its Family Life Enrichment programmes was the workshop on ‘Communicating and Disciplining your Children’. NuLife was specially engaged by Kampong Kapor Family Service Centre for the parents of Farrer Park Primary School.

NuLife is proud to announce that all students enrolled in NuLife’s tuition programmes (under mainstream, private and suspension programmes) this year performed well to be promoted. We achieved 100% pass in our PSLE, GCE ‘N’ level and ‘O’ level examinations. For the year 2007, we had 1 private ‘N’ level candidate and 3 private ‘O’ level candidates, who are currently awaiting their results. In conjunction with NuLife’s ‘Educate a Child’ project, 5 students were provided with financial assistance this year to cover their individual monthly school expenses. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Mr. Francis Paranjody, Mr. Ranjan Mariappan, Madam Anne Tan and Mr. Chandrasegar for graciously having sponsored these students.

As NuLife comes to the end of yet another fruitful year, preparations are underway to lay the groundwork for the centre’s activities in the upcoming year.

At the beginning of every year, NuLife helps source for funds to assist needy children to cover their school necessities expenditure. As such, the centre is currently focusing on students who need financial assistance for the academic year of 2008. By providing students from low-income families with at least a minimum amount of $300, NuLife hopes to fulfill at least the basic requirements for every needy child.

NuLife has engaged 2 mascots to promote the centre’s upcoming projects in 2008 to the public at large. They are namely Mr. Jaya Ganesh Iswaren from the media industry, an upcoming and well-known artist especially among the youths and Mr. Shabir, the winner of the title Vasantham Star 2005 (Singapore Indian Idol). NuLife hopes to garner more support from the public for its programmes with the aid of these prominent figures in the Indian community.

As we look forward to the start of a joyful year, let us not forget the less fortunate and needy. We look forward to your continuous support in our future projects. To learn of the latest developments at our centre and of the upcoming projects, do keep yourself updated with our website or feel free to visit us at our centre on weekdays between 12 and 9pm or Saturdays 12pm to 4 pm.

To All Our Sponsors & Well Wishers:

Our heartfelt thanks for aiding NuLife in one way or another.

Best Regards & New Year Wishes

Cheers!
